Ingredients You'll Need

- Frozen chicken breasts - Boneless, skinless work best. Similar sizes ensure even cooking.
- Olive oil - Or avocado oil. Helps the seasoning stick and keeps the meat juicy.
- Seasoning blend. I used my Best Smoked Chicken Rub made with brown sugar, Roasted Garlic and Peppers seasoning, paprika, onion powder, chili powder, seasoning salt, and black pepper. Feel free to use your favorite seasoning mix.
How to Cook Frozen Chicken Breast in Air Fryer
Quick Overview
- Preheat air fryer to 360°F.
- Brush chicken with oil.
- Season both sides.
- Air fry, flipping halfway.
- Cook until the thickest part of the breast reaches 165°F with an instant-read thermometer.

Step 1: Preheat your air fryer to 360°F. If your model doesn't have a preheat button, just run it for 3-5 minutes at temperature. Place frozen chicken breasts in the air fryer basket in a single layer. It's okay if they are frozen together. Brush the top and sides of the chicken with olive oil.

Step 2: In a small bowl, combine the seasonings for the chicken rub. Sprinkle the seasoning generously over the chicken.

Step 3: Air fry the chicken for 6 minutes, then use tongs to break apart any pieces that are stuck together.

Step 4: Flip the chicken over and brush with a little more oil. Season again. Air fry the chicken for another 4 minutes at 360°F.

Step 5: Flip the chicken over and increase the heat to 380°F. Cook for 10 more minutes, flipping halfway through.

Step 6: Use an instant-read thermometer to check doneness. Insert it into the thickest part of the breast. Once the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 165°F, it's cooked. Let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
Substitutions and Variations
Chicken. Use fresh, semi-frozen, or even bone-in. For crispy skin, try boneless skin-on breasts. Reduce cooking time slightly if thawed.
Seasoning - Swap in lemon pepper, Italian seasoning, my Best Pork Rub, or Homemade Seasoned Salt. Add cayenne for heat or brush with BBQ sauce at the end.
Oil - Avocado or canola oil works too.
Herbs - Sprinkle fresh parsley, thyme, or oregano after cooking for extra flavor.
Serving Suggestions
Air fryer chicken breast is one of the most versatile proteins you can make. Try it with:
- A green salad, Greek Cucumber Salad, or Spinach Feta Strawberry Walnut Salad.
- Classic sides like Instant Pot Rice, Air Fryer Bacon-Wrapped Asparagus, Air Fryer Frozen Broccoli, or Air Fryer Frozen French Fries.
- Comfort food favorites like Smoked Mac and Cheese, Smoked Baked Potatoes, Crispy Oven-Roasted Potatoes, or pasta with Homemade Alfredo Sauce.

Jeri's Top Tips
- Use chicken breasts of similar thickness so they cook evenly.
- Don't skip the rest - a few minutes of resting keeps juices locked in.
- Season both sides for the best flavor.
- Always use an instant-read thermometer instead of guessing.

Refrigerator: Store leftover chicken breasts in an airtight container for 3-4 days.
Freezer: Wrap leftovers tightly in plastic wrap and place in a freezer bag for up to 2 2 months.

Notes
- Cooking times vary by air fryer model and thickness of chicken. Always check with a thermometer, not the clock.
- Frozen chicken cooks best when the breasts are similar in size.
- Leftovers store well in the fridge for 3-4 days. Reheat in the air fryer or microwave.
- The chicken rub makes a large batch. Store leftovers in an airtight container in a cool, dark place and use it on my other chicken recipes.
