Hey everyone!
I want to welcome you and let you know I appreciate you taking the time to check out my blog on your busy day! Thank you.
My name is Jeri. You can see what I look like from the picture on the right.
I am a wife, proud mom to 3 great kids (2 are all grown up), and mom to one giant Saint Bernard dog and one cat.
I love being busy - it's my favorite thing about myself! There is nothing better than seeing that something has been done or accomplished - the feeling leaves me energized!
I enjoy cooking meals for family members on holidays, taking road trips with my family in the summertime, reading books when there's time…you get the idea.
I am originally from Southern Alberta but have lived in Central Alberta, Canada, for 15 years.
One of my favorite things about life is meeting new people - both online and off. So my philosophy on life (and blogging) is simple: "Every day can be an adventure!"
I have an optimistic outlook on life which has allowed me to take advantage of everything that comes my way. Life can be challenging at times, but it's always better when you look for the best in people and every situation.
Living out here in the country has undoubtedly changed our life. It has slowed down, it's less stressful, and we get the chance to enjoy life. I finally have time to experiment in the kitchen, try out new recipes, and spend time with my family.
We try to live as simply and as naturally as we can; this means cooking homemade meals from scratch that contain very few processed ingredients. We try our best to eat clean, wholesome food (with a lot grown on our farm) and lead a healthy, active lifestyle.
Why Start A Blog?
My husband and I started the Winding Creek Ranch blog to share favorite recipes passed down from generation to generation and are homemade using fresh, wholesome ingredients. These recipes are delicious, fresh, healthy (we try our best anyway), family-friendly, and easy to make with everyday ingredients. Most importantly, our recipes always taste great, and we have tested them to make sure they turn out....every single time.
My family and I try to eat less "processed" food and use more "natural" ingredients. We try to eat as much "organic" food as possible to eliminate our intake of chemicals on our food. I also use natural sweeteners like maple syrup, non-pasteurized honey, or organic cane sugar instead of refined sugar.
We feel it is essential to use organic food such as fruits and vegetables whenever possible, so we grow our food here, which we love because we know it is healthy! We have a greenhouse, a root cellar, and an enormous garden that grows enough vegetables to last us the year – fortunately, we have plenty of space for all this farming!
I love to cook, and it is one of my favorite hobbies. I enjoy experimenting with new recipes, but some of my favorites have been passed down from generations in our family, like this recipe for air buns handed down from my husband's grandmother.
I love to make dishes from all over the world in my kitchen- whether it's learning how to make a bowl of seafood chowder just like the one I had in Victoria, BC, or figuring out how to make a taco just like the one from a food truck on the beach in Hawaii. Food is an excellent way for me to remember where we've been and what we've seen while traveling together as a family.
