🍌 What is a thick smoothie bowl?
A thick smoothie bowl is a thicker form of a smoothie and is eaten with a spoon, like ice cream. They can come in many different flavors and contain nearly any fruit or vegetable you would want to use to flavor it.
Thick smoothie bowls are becoming increasingly popular as an alternative to traditional breakfast dishes like cereal or oatmeal. They are healthy and nutritious yet offer variety in texture and flavor.
In addition, there are plenty of ingredients that you can add to give it extra flavor or extra nutrients.
😃 Why you will love this thick pink smoothie bowl
EASY: Smoothie bowls are SO easy to make. Just put all the ingredients in a blender or food processor and blend them up!
HEALTHY: This smoothie bowl contains natural ingredients with no added sugar, making this a healthy option for breakfast, snack, or post-workout.
THICK: Have you ever made a smoothie bowl and the ingredients sank to the bottom of the bowl? Don't worry; that will NOT happen with this thick smoothie bowl recipe. Instead, the toppings stay on top just where you put them.

🥣 Ingredient Notes and Substitutions
This smoothie bowl is easy to make with just a few simple ingredients you probably already have on hand.

- Frozen banana. Make sure the banana is sliced and frozen. If you use a fresh banana the smoothie bowl will not have the thick, creamy consistency.
- Milk of your choice. I used unsweetened almond milk. You could also use unsweetened coconut milk, oat milk, or dairy milk.
- Frozen berries. I used frozen raspberries. You can use any type of frozen berry that you have, such as strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, or haskap berries.
- Your choice of toppings. I topped this pink smoothie bowl with shredded coconut, frozen raspberries, sliced banana, and chia seeds.
As I mentioned earlier, this banana smoothie bowl is incredibly thick, easy to make, super nutritious, and made with healthy ingredients. Use ingredients you already have on hand and don't be afraid to experiment.
🥄 How to make a thick smoothie bowl
Most importantly, to get the thick consistency, use frozen banana slices. Put the equivalent of 1 banana (about 20 pieces) in a food processor or blender. Add two tablespoons of milk and pulse or blend until you get a creamy consistency.
Add in ½ cup of frozen berries (I used raspberries). Pulse or blend until well combined.

Spoon it into a bowl and top with your favorite smoothie bowl toppings!

🤩 Top tips for the perfect thick smoothie bowl

The same thing goes for the fruit you are using. If you are using fresh fruit, slice it and place it in the freezer the night before. This is the key to a thick smoothie bowl, using frozen fruit.

🍌 Are smoothie bowls healthy?
A smoothie bowl is a lot healthier than a regular bowl of cereal. Smoothies are made from fruit, vegetables, and other healthy ingredients blended to create a delicious treat.
Smoothie bowls share the same health benefits as smoothies. They are healthy because they contain a variety of whole, natural foods and are naturally sweetened. Plus, smoothie bowls are made even more nutritious with some "superfood" ingredients such as chia seeds and hemp hearts. Everything is good in moderation; be careful not to overdo it with large portions and high-calorie ingredients.
❓ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Smoothies are a great way to get a healthy dose of fruits and vegetables in your diet. Smoothie bowls are a great way to enjoy the same flavors as a smoothie, but with more volume, so you're less likely to feel like you're missing out on something.
It takes about 10 minutes to make a thick smoothie bowl recipe.
No, you do not need a special blender, any blender will do. I actually prefer to use a food processor instead of a blender to prepare smoothie bowls.
