It's no secret that I enjoy a good tropical island vacation. Who doesn't love the sound of waves crashing on the shore, the smell of fresh coconuts, and the taste of ripe mangoes?
I have been dreaming of when I can return to Maui (my favorite place so far). So until then, this smoothie is the perfect way to enjoy the flavors of the tropics without leaving home. And best of all, it only takes a few minutes to make.
The key to the tropical flavor of this smoothie is to use fresh ripe mangoes and ripe pineapple.
If they're not in season, you can always use frozen fruit. However, I highly recommend using fresh fruit if it's available. The flavors are just so much better. Trust me; your taste buds will thank you.
At this time of year, mangoes are in peak season and are at a great price at your local grocery store. This makes it the perfect time to make this refreshing treat; it tastes amazing on a hot summer day, just like mango ice cream. 🙂
So, next time you're dreaming of a tropical getaway, whip up a batch of this mango and pineapple smoothie. These two fruits, when combined in a smoothie, are delicious.
This reminds me of the mango-pineapple McDonald's smoothie, but I highly recommend making this creamy smoothie at home instead of picking up the McDonald's version.
This smoothie is actually healthy and contains way less sugar.
You can make it quickly and easily in just a few minutes, and the best part is that it is made with all-natural ingredients, so you know it is healthy.

How to make a mango pineapple smoothie
Making this homemade smoothie is easy, and it's a great way to use ripe fruit that might otherwise go to waste.
You only need a high-speed blender or food processor and some fresh mangoes and pineapples.
First, add the ingredients in the following order to a blender: Yogurt, coconut milk, mango, pineapple chunks, orange juice, lime juice, and ice.

Next, blend everything at high speed until the mixture is smooth and combined.

Add more orange juice if needed to reach your desired creamy consistency. For example, I like my smoothies on the thicker side, but feel free to add more liquid if you prefer a thinner drink.
Taste the smoothie and add honey or maple syrup to sweeten if desired. However, if your mangoes are particularly ripe, you may not need to add any sweetener. But, if it is a bit on the sour side, feel free to add a bit of sweetener to taste.
Divide between two tall glasses and serve immediately.
I like to garnish mine with small pieces of extra mango or pineapple for sweetness and decoration.
Easy, right?
Enjoy!
NOTE: If you are using frozen mango or pineapple, omit the ice cubes unless you want a really thick smoothie.

Substitutions
If you're anything like me, you love a good smoothie. Mangoes and pineapples are two of my favorite fruits, but they can be hard to come by (and expensive!) if it's not peak season.
Here are a few substitutes that will give your smoothie the same tropical flavors:
- Fresh mangoes. You can use frozen mango chunks if you don't have fresh mango.
- Pineapple. You can use frozen or canned pineapple instead if you don't have fresh pineapple. Just drain the pineapple before adding it to your blender, or your smoothie will be too watery.
- Yogurt. You can use regular or Greek yogurt in this recipe. Vanilla yogurt gives the smoothie great flavor, but you can also use plain yogurt.
- Coconut milk: If you are looking for non-dairy milk, you can use canned coconut milk, light coconut milk, almond milk, soy milk, or oat milk. You can also use coconut water.
- Orange juice: You can use pineapple juice instead if you would like more pineapple flavor.
Variations
- For a little extra sweetness, add one tablespoon of honey or maple syrup.
- Add one scoop of protein powder to make the smoothie more filling. This will help to keep you full until lunchtime.
- Add some fresh ginger for an extra zing.
- Add a handful of spinach or kale to the blender for a healthier smoothie. The green leaves will boost the nutrient content of the smoothie without changing the flavor too much.
- Make a mango pineapple smoothie bowl. Add frozen banana to the ingredients to make a mango pineapple fruit base, then top with your favorite toppings.
- Make a mango pineapple banana smoothie by adding a fresh banana to the ingredients.
Equipment
You will need a high-powered blender or a food processor to make this easy smoothie recipe.
Storage
A mango and pineapple smoothie is a delicious, healthy, and refreshing treat.
Fridge: This smoothie will keep in the refrigerator overnight. Pour it into a glass jar with a lid, which will keep in the fridge for up to one day. Then, give it a quick shake before you drink it, and you are good to go.
Freezer: Pour the smoothie into a container that is airtight and freezer-safe. I like to use glass jars with a lid. Place the jar in the freezer, where it will keep for up to 2 months.
When ready to enjoy your smoothie, remove it from the freezer and let it thaw for about 30 minutes. If it's too thick, add a little more liquid and blend again.
