A Restaurant-Worthy Side Dish
I love making air fryer vegetables of all kinds, like my Air Fryer Frozen Broccoli and Air Fryer Carrots. However, these breaded green beans are one of my favorite ways to dress up fresh green beans, making them feel a little extra special.
I first had panko green beans at a restaurant, and it was love at first bite. I've since spent countless hours testing different ways to make them at home, and these air fryer breaded green beans are by far my favorite method.
Most green bean fries are deep-fried, but this air fryer version keeps things lighter and easier. The key is drying the beans well, using panko instead of regular breadcrumbs, and giving them just enough oil to turn golden and crisp.

Recipe Ingredients
- Fresh green beans: Use 12 ounces of fresh green beans with the ends trimmed. Frozen green beans release too much moisture and can make the coating soggy.
- Large eggs: These act as a binder, helping the breading cling to each bean.
- All-purpose flour: Flour gives the eggs something to cling to and helps create a dry surface for the breading.
- Seasoned panko: Panko breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper create the crispy, savory coating. Regular breadcrumbs won't get quite as crispy.
How to Make Air Fryer Green Bean Fries
Prep the green beans: Wash the fresh beans, trim the ends, and dry them really well with paper towels.

Set up the breading station: Add flour to one shallow bowl, beaten eggs to a second bowl, and the seasoned panko mixture to a third bowl.

Bread the green beans: Dip each green bean into the egg, followed by the flour. Then dip them in the egg again, then coat them with the seasoned panko, pressing gently to help the coating stick. Transfer each bean to a sheet of parchment paper, and repeat until you have enough green beans to fill an air fryer basket.

Air fry: Arrange the coated green beans in a single layer in a preheated air fryer basket. Lightly spray them with oil, and air fry until golden and crisp, turning halfway through. Serve warm!

Jeri's Top Tips
- Dry the green beans well. Extra moisture creates steam, and steam is the enemy of crispy coating.
- Press the panko onto the beans. I like to gently press the coating on with my hands so it sticks better and crisps up nicely.
- Don't overcrowd the basket. Arrange the green bean fries in a single layer with space between them so the hot air can circulate properly, cooking the beans on all sides. Cook in batches if needed.
- Preheat and spray lightly with oil. A hot air fryer helps the coating crisp right away, and a light spray of oil helps the panko turn golden without making the fries greasy.
What to Serve with Green Bean Fries
These panko green beans are great anywhere you'd normally serve fries. They work especially well with Easy Smoked Burgers, Smoked Steaks, Wagyu Steak, Juicy Smoked Pulled Chicken, or any seafood because the crispy coating adds texture without being heavy.
They also make a fun appetizer with aioli, ranch, spicy mayo, sriracha mayo, or even my Smash Burger Sauce or Dill Mayo Sauce.
Storage
- Fridge: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Reheat: Reheat in the air fryer at 375°F for 2-4 minutes, or until warmed through and crisp again. Don't microwave them, as it will make the coating soft and soggy.
- Freezer: I don't recommend freezing cooked green bean fries because the breading can become soggy. However, you can freeze the breaded, uncooked green beans on a baking sheet until solid, then transfer them to a freezer-safe bag for up to 2 months. Cook directly from frozen, adding a few extra minutes as needed.

Air Fryer Green Bean Fries
Ingredients
- 12 ounces fresh green beans, ends trimmed
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup Panko breadcrumbs
- ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- oil spray (avocado or olive oil)
Instructions
- Wash the green beans, trim the ends, and dry them thoroughly with paper towels. This step is important to help the coating crisp up rather than steam.
- Set up a dredging station with three shallow bowls: Bowl 1: Beaten eggsBowl 2: FlourBowl 3: Panko breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper (mix to combine).
- Dip each green bean into the egg, then coat it in flour. Dip it back into the egg, then roll it in the panko mixture, pressing gently to help the coating stick. Place the breaded green beans on parchment paper. I like to coat 6 to 8 at a time to speed things up.
- Preheat your air fryer to 390°F.
- Arrange the breaded green beans in a single layer in the air fryer basket, leaving a little space between each one. Cook in batches if needed. Lightly spray the green beans with oil. Air fry for 4 to 5 minutes, carefully turning them halfway through, until the coating is golden brown and crisp.
- Serve immediately while they're hot and crispy.

Notes
- Dry the green beans well: Any extra moisture will create steam and soften the coating.
- Press the panko on firmly: This helps the breading stay in place.
- Don't overcrowd the basket: Air circulation is what makes them crispy.
- Best served fresh: These are at their crispiest right out of the air fryer.
- Reheat leftovers: Air fry at 375°F for 2 to 3 minutes to crisp them up again.
