These Frozen Waffle Fries in Air Fryer are an easy side dish you can make that your whole family will enjoy. This is a super easy and quick recipe that only takes about 10 minutes. These frozen waffle fries are a delicious, crispy alternative to your regular fries and have fewer calories than the deep-fried version. The best thing about these waffle fries is that they have a crispy crunch exterior and taste like fried ones. They make a perfect snack for game days or family gatherings that everyone will love!

Part fry, part waffle, all parts delicious, these waffle fries are fantastic! Lattice cut with a crispy coating; these waffle fries are incredibly versatile.

This recipe is so good because it's a healthier version of fried food. The air fryer uses less oil and no additional deep frying to make the frozen waffle fries. As a result, they are still crispy and crunchy like deep-fried french fries, but they are lower in calories, fat, and salt.

I remember eating these waffle cut fries in fast food restaurants when I was a kid. They were usually served with hot dogs or chicken tenders and cooked in the deep fryer.

If you're having a party or game day gathering and want something healthy and crispy but still good for your waistline (trust me when I say this is one of the best snacks ever), make these as a side dish for your guests.

I still get amazed by how well air frying works. It is a great way to make crispier fries than baking, just as good as deep-frying, and uses very little oil, so they are much healthier!

One of my favorite foods is french fries, and one of my favorite type of french fries is waffle fries. There is something about the crispy yet puffy exterior, perfect for holding lots of toppings or sauce.

We LOVE making homemade fries in our air fryer, especially homemade sweet potato fries. I have also made many different types of fries, such as frozen sweet potato fries, homemade waffle fries, crinkle cut fries, regular fries, curly fries, tater tots, and potato wedges. We have loved all of them, so I knew I had to try making frozen waffle fries. Next up is to cook homemade sweet potato waffle fries in the air fryer, made with my own potato cutter!

These air fryer waffle fries are so good, and they make the perfect side dish or snack. Your family will love them!

NO PREP: No prep needed; open a bag of fries and dump them in the air fryer basket. No peeling or cutting is required!

FEWER CALORIES: These fries have less calories than deep frying as no extra oil is used because they are cooked using hot air instead of deep-fried in oil.

CRISPY: They are always crispy and taste good, but they are addictive!

EASY: Did I say easy? Because really, they are super easy!

PERFECT FOR WEEKNIGHT MEALS: These are perfect for quick weeknight meals with no prep. Pair them with frozen salmon and frozen broccoli, all made in the air fryer, for a super quick meal!

What you need to make Extra Crispy Waffle Fries

These waffle fries are quick to make, and you can easily find these fries at your local grocery store.

Ingredients for air fryer waffle fries from frozen, just frozen fries and seasoning

Waffle fries. I purchased frozen waffle fries, seasoned. You can find these waffle fries in the frozen foods section with the other french fries. The amount of fries you use will depend on how many people you feed. If you are serving 4 people or more, you will want a full bag of waffle fries. However, if you are feeding less than 4 people, use fewer fries. You can also purchase different type of waffle fries and season them to taste.

See the recipe card for quantities.

How to make Frozen Waffle Fries in the Air Fryer

The cooking process for these crispy fries is super easy.

First of all, preheat the air fryer temperature to 400 degrees f.

Next, open the bag of frozen fries and place them in the air fryer tray in a single layer. A little bit of overlap on the bottom of the air fryer basket is fine.

How long to cook frozen waffle fries in air fryer?

Next, set the cooking time for 10 minutes. At the 5 minute mark, shake the basket to ensure even cooking. At the end of the cook time, if the waffle fries are not done to desired crispness, cook for up to an additional 5 minutes.

Importantly, please note that all air fryers do not cook the same, so you may need to adjust the cooking time for your air fryer.

That's it! Serve with your favorite dips!

I hope you enjoy these fries as much as we do!

    How to serve waffle-cut fries

Once your fries are cooked to perfect crispness, enjoy with your favorite seasoning and dipping sauce. Some tasty ones to try are:

    • Sprinkle with a bit of sea salt
    • Ketchup
    • Barbecue sauce
    • Top with sour cream, bacon bits, and chives for deluxe fries
    • Top with salsa or pico de gallo
    • Use ranch dressing as a dip
    • Serve with dill dip
    • Spice things up by adding in some cayenne pepper, red pepper flakes, or chili powder!
    • Coat the waffle fries with spices like garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, oregano, or thyme after air frying them for extra flavor! Don't forget to add a little salt and a little black pepper!

How to store leftover waffle fries

To enjoy waffle fries after they have cooled down, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days.

These ingredients don't stand up well to freezing after cooking; they would get mushy in the freezer.

    Recipe Tips

There are a few things to pay attention to if you're using an air fryer for waffle fries from frozen.

    • Do not let the fries thaw first.
    • Preheat the air fryer.
    • Place the waffle fries in an even layer in the air fryer basket. This ensures that all of them will come out crispy and golden brown as they should. To make sure that this happens, stir them about halfway through cooking time. The waffle fries should take about 10 minutes in the air fryer, but it depends on how many fries are in the air fryer basket and how your air fryer cooks.
    • Consequently, different types of air fryers will cook differently. If your fries are not crispy enough, put them back in for another minute or two.
    • If you are cooking the waffle fries in batches, place cooked waffle fries on a baking sheet and put them in the oven to keep warm.

    Equipment

To make waffle fries from frozen, you need an air fryer. The one I used for this recipe was the Ninja Foodi Air Fryer. It has an 8 qt capacity with two baskets, making it easy to cook enough food to feed my family in no time!

I also have an Instant Pot Vortex Air Fryer. It was very reasonably priced and has a large basket so I can cook food in larger batches.

By now, you probably know that the best thing about these Air Fryer Frozen Waffle Fries is how easy they are to make with no prep and their crunchy, crispy outside.

These fries make excellent appetizers, an easy snack, or a crave-worthy side dish. Served loaded, drizzled, or dipped, these waffle fries are a crowd-pleaser for any occasion.
