☕ Ingredients and substitutions
You can find all the ingredients to make this easy latte recipe at your local grocery store.

- Caramel sauce. I used Torani caramel sauce, but you could also use dulce de leche, regular caramel syrup you would use on ice cream, or homemade caramel sauce.
- Vanilla simple syrup. I made vanilla syrup made from a 2:1 mixture of water and white sugar. I like to make lots and keep it in the fridge.
- Espresso. I made espresso in my espresso machine with Starbucks' Signature espresso. Another great option is Starbucks dark roast coffee. You can also use prepared strong hot coffee or instant espresso. You can also make an espresso in a Moka pot.
- Milk. I used regular milk (2%) in this latte. You could also use any dairy milk such as 1% milk, nonfat milk, whole milk, half-and-half, or heavy cream. You could also use oat milk, soy milk, almond milk, or coconut milk. The less milk fat, the foamier the milk gets.
- Whipped cream. I used Dairyland whipped cream, but you could also make homemade whipped cream with heavy cream. To do this, whip ½ cup heavy cream with an electric mixer until soft peaks form. Add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and 1 tablespoon of maple syrup and whip until combined.
- Caramel Brulee bits. I made my own caramel candy bits with white sugar, but you could also use cane sugar. To make this really easy, feel free to use crushed toffee or a crushed Skor bar, or toffee bits from the Bulk Barn.

⏲️ Instructions
This recipe makes one serving of 354 mL (Tall size). If making Venti size, double all of the ingredients.
Step 1: Make the Vanilla Simple Syrup.
Add equal parts water and white sugar together in a small saucepan. Heat until the sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat. Whisk in the vanilla extract.

Step 2: Make the Caramel Brulee topping.
Line a rimmed baking sheet with a piece of parchment paper. Add white sugar to a medium saucepan. Cook the sugar over low-medium heat until the sugar melts and turns golden brown. You will need to stir it constantly to prevent it from burning. This will take about 1-2 minutes.
Hint: As soon as it melts, remove it from the heat. It goes from just melted to burnt in an instant. Do not let it boil! (Yes, I am speaking from experience). 🙂

Carefully pour the caramel evenly onto the baking sheet. Use the back of a spoon to spread it thinly. Let sit for 5 minutes. When hardened, crush the caramel into small pieces. I like to put the caramel in a plastic bag and crush it up.
Be very careful; the small shards are like glass and are very sharp!

Step 3: Froth the milk.
This can be done in a couple of different ways, depending on what kind of tools you have in your kitchen. Here are the different options:
- If you have a milk frother that also heats, froth the milk and vanilla simple syrup until hot.
- Add the milk and vanilla simple syrup to a small saucepan and heat over medium-high heat and whisk constantly until frothy and steaming.
Step 4: Assemble the coffee
Add 1-2 tablespoons of caramel sauce to the bottom of a mug.

Pour a shot of espresso on top of the sauce. Mix with a fork, small whisk, or milk frother.

Gently pour the hot milk on top of the espresso, making sure to keep the foam on top.

Top with whipped cream and a light caramel drizzle.

Finally, add a sprinkle of candied brulee topping. The candy will melt into the whip cream.
Serve immediately.
Enjoy!

📋 Variations
This Starbucks copycat drink is the perfect way to treat yourself. It's rich, decadent, and oh-so-delicious. But sometimes, you just want to mix things up a bit. Here are a few variations on this classic recipe:
- For a little extra sweetness, add an extra tablespoon of caramel sauce to your latte.
- Make it a Salted Caramel Brûlé Latte by sprinkling sea salt on top of the melted sugar before it cools.
- If you're feeling really adventurous, try making a Mocha Brûlé Latte by adding a shot of chocolate syrup to your latte. Delicious!
- For a fun twist on the presentation, serve your latte in a mug with a sugar rim. Yum!
- For a skinny latte, use skim milk and omit the whipped cream topping.
☕ Equipment
- Small saucepan - for making the vanilla simple syrup, caramel brule candy, and to heat the milk if you don't have a milk frother that heats up.
- Rimmed baking sheet - for making the caramel candy.
- Espresso machine, Moka pot, coffee maker, or French press - for making espresso or strong hot coffee.
- Milk frother or whisk - for mixing the ingredients

🌡️ Storage
If you're like me, you love a good coffee, but sometimes you don't have time to finish it all in one sitting.
Luckily, there's an easy way to store your leftovers in the fridge so you can enjoy them later. All you have to do is pour your latte into an airtight container, such as a mason jar. Screw on the lid and store in the fridge for up to 2 days.
When you're ready to enjoy it, shake it up and serve cold, or heat it on the stove or in the microwave until it's the perfect temperature.
Just keep in mind, however, that the quality of the coffee may start to decline. Additionally, when you reheat the latte, it may not taste as good as it did originally, so I highly recommend consuming it fresh.
I do not recommend freezing this latte.
💭 Top tips
- Make the vanilla simple syrup first. Make extra and store it in a glass jar in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. That way, you can have it ready to use whenever you want!
- Make the caramel candy next. Let it cool while you are heating the milk and making espresso. Store extra candy bits in a jar in your pantry or cupboard.
- Heat and froth the milk while you are making the espresso. You want to add everything while it is hot.
- Pour the steamed milk in slowly so the foam stays on top.
- Sprinkle the caramelized sugar on top. This is what makes the latte so special.
- Enjoy your latte! This is the best part. Sip slowly and savor the rich flavor of caramelized sugar in your coffee. Yum!
