Why You'll Love Sausage and Peppers in Air Fryer
- An easy recipe made in the air fryer basket.
- Easy cleanup with just one pot.
- The sausage, peppers, and onions are perfectly cooked.
- The peppers and onions are crispy and not soft or soggy.
- Ready in just 20 minutes.
Recipe Ingredients
- Italian sausages. I used Italian sausage, but you can also use smoked sausage or sausage links. The cooking time will need to be reduced if using smaller sausages. You can also use chicken, turkey, or plant-based sausages.
- Bell peppers. Use any color of peppers you like. You can even add some jalapeno peppers if you want some spice!
- Onion. I used a red onion, but a yellow onion or white onion will also work.
- Seasoning. I used a simple seasoning made with garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper.

Skewers - Cook the sausages for 5 minutes then cut them into bite-sized pieces and thread them onto wooden skewers with peppers and onions. You may also like my Air Fryer Chicken Skewers.
Vegan - Substitute the sausages with vegan sausage.
Expert Tips
- Cut your peppers and onions the same size so they cook evenly.
- Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to cook in batches to avoid overcrowding.
- Halfway through cooking, shake the basket for even cooking.
- Use a meat thermometer to check that the sausages are done (160°F for pork and beef, 165°F for chicken or turkey sausages).
What Can I Serve With Air Fryer Sausage Peppers and Onion?
- Classic Italian Style. Toss the sausage, onion, and peppers with your favorite pasta, such as penne or spaghetti, and a drizzle of olive oil or marinara sauce. Top it off with grated Parmesan cheese.
- Low-Carb/Keto Friendly. Serve over cauliflower rice.
- Hearty Sandwiches. Stuff the sausage and peppers into a toasted hoagie roll. Add a slice of provolone or mozzarella cheese and air fry for a minute until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- With Grains. Serve over a bed of cooked quinoa or Instant Pot Jasmine Rice.
- With Eggs. Serve with fried or scrambled eggs for a hearty breakfast.
- Fajita-Style. Wrap the sausage and peppers in flour tortillas or 3-ingredient Flatbread and top with sour cream, guacamole, and Chunky Salsa With Fresh Tomatoes.
- Baked Potatoes. Scoop into halved baked potatoes or Smoked Baked Potatoes. Top with sour cream and green onions.
- Pizza. Believe it or not, you can use it as a topping on homemade pizza. Make No Rise Homemade Pizza Dough, top it with pizza sauce, add the sausage and peppers, top with mozzarella cheese, and bake.

Refrigerator
Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
Freezer
I do not recommend freezing as the vegetables will get mushy.
