🍑 What is the Difference Between Peach Crisp and Peach Cobbler?
Peach crisp and peach cobbler are classic recipes for the perfect sweet treat. However, there is a difference between the two.
Classic Peach Cobbler is a baked fruit dessert with a biscuit-like crust on top. The crust is usually flour, sugar, butter, and milk. It's called "cobbler" because the dough is dropped onto the fruit filling in uneven spoonfuls before baking. The dough puffs up as it bakes and creates a rustic-looking top layer.
On the other hand, peach crisp is sliced peaches placed in a baking dish and topped with a thinner, crispy topping made of oats, flour, butter, and sugar. Be sure to try my Air Fryer Peach Crisp recipe too!

🍑 Ingredient Notes & Substitutions
To make this delicious air fryer peach cobbler, you'll need just a few simple ingredients that you probably already have in your pantry.
- Peaches are the star of this recipe. You can use any peaches you have on hand. Canned peaches work just as well as fresh ones. If you use fresh peaches, make sure they are ripe and juicy. Yellow and white peaches work great for this recipe, but you can also use Freestone peaches or Clingstone peaches if they are in season. If you use canned peaches, drain them well before using.
- Cornstarch is used as a thickener in the filling. It helps absorb some of the liquid released by the peaches during cooking and creates a syrupy texture that coats each slice of peach.
- Spices: Cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg are used to flavor the cobbler.
- All-purpose flour is the base for the biscuit topping and provides structure to the topping.
- Sugar adds sweetness to both the filling and topping of this cobbler. You can adjust the amount of sugar used depending on how sweet your peaches are. You can also use coconut sugar instead of brown sugar.

🍑 Canned Peaches Vs Frozen Peaches Vs Fresh Peaches
Canned peaches: A quick and convenient option since they are already peeled and sliced - and they're available year-round. However, canned peaches are packed in syrup or water, so drain any excess liquid before adding them to the cobbler mixture.
Frozen peaches: These also save time on preparation. However, frozen peaches release more liquid during cooking than fresh ones, so thaw the frozen peaches first and drain any excess liquid before adding them to the filling mixture.
Fresh peaches: A great option if you have access to fresh, ripe peaches during peach season. However, you must peel and slice them before adding them to the filling mixture. To make this process easier, blanch the peaches by boiling them for 30 seconds and then plunging them into ice water. This will help loosen the skins so they're easier to remove.
🥣 How To Make This Easy Peach Cobbler Recipe
First, if using fresh peaches, wash them by rinsing them under cool running water and use a soft-bristled brush to scrub away any dirt or debris gently. Next, peel and slice the peaches. If using canned peaches, drain the liquid well.
Next, preheat your air fryer to 330 degrees F.
Combine the peach slices, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, salt, and lemon juice in a mixing bowl. Mix well until the peaches are coated with the sugar and spice mixture.
Transfer the peach mixture into a greased baking dish that fits into your air fryer. This could be a pie plate, an 8x8 dish, or four ramekins. Smooth out the top with a spatula.
Mix the flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl. Pour in the milk and melted butter and stir just until combined.
Spoon the batter over the top of the peach mixture and smooth it out with a spatula.
Mix the remaining ¼ cup of brown sugar and ½ teaspoon of ground cinnamon in a small bowl. Sprinkle this mixture over the top of the batter.
Place the baking dish (or ramekins) into the preheated air fryer basket and cook for 20 minutes until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
Carefully remove the baking dish from the air fryer and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
Serve the peach cobbler warm with a scoop of Ninja Creami Vanilla Ice Cream or whipped cream. Enjoy!
💭 Expert Cooking Tips
- When making the biscuit topping, be sure not to overwork it, which can cause the cobbler to be dense and tough.
- Before putting the peaches in the dish(es), spray the dish(es) with cooking spray to prevent the cobbler from sticking and make cleanup much easier.
- Air fryers vary in strength so the cooking time may differ. Keep an eye on your cobbler and adjust the time as necessary.
- If the topping gets too brown, lay a piece of aluminum foil over the top.
🫐 Variations
One of the best things about peach cobbler is its versatility. With just a few changes, you can create an entirely new dessert. Here are some variations to try:
