Substitutions
- Onion + garlic. Use any kind of onion, onion powder, dried onion, garlic powder, or dried garlic.
- Ground beef. Instead of beef, use ground venison, chicken, or ground turkey.
- Taco seasoning. Use the Taco Bell Taco Seasoning Mix packet from the Taco Bell box, your favorite taco seasoning, or homemade taco seasoning.
- Large and small flour tortillas. Use homemade Flat Bread With No Yeast, store-bought large flour tortillas, or corn tortillas. You can also use a small plate as a template and cut smaller tortilla shells out of large tortilla shells.
- Doritos. I used Doritos in the Nacho Cheese flavor. You could also use crunchy tostada shells, tortilla chips, or hard taco shells.
- Cheddar cheese. Use a Mexican cheese blend instead, or homemade cheese sauce like my Salsa Con Queso or Smoked Queso.
- More toppings: Avocado, spinach, black beans, refried beans.
Storage
Store the ingredients (taco meat, lettuce, tomato, avocado, sour cream, salsa) separately in the fridge in an airtight container, and reassemble when ready. It will keep for 2-3 days.
You can freeze the leftover taco meat in a Ziploc bag or airtight container for up to 2 months.
Expert Tips
- Spray the air fryer basket or skillet to prevent sticking when browning the crunchwrap.
- Don't overstuff it or it won't hold together.
- Break the Doritos so they don't poke through the tortilla shell.
