Ingredients To Make Salsa Con Queso Recipe
Find the ingredients for this delicious recipe at your local grocery store:
- Cheese. I used white cheddar cheese to make Queso Blanco, but you can use regular cheddar cheese.
- Salsa. I used my Homemade Canned Salsa, but you can also use Fresh Chunky Salsa or store-bought salsa. A hot salsa will make your queso dip spicy, while a mild salsa will make it less spicy.
- Milk. I used evaporated milk that I thickened with cornstarch, but you could also use heavy cream or whole milk.
- Seasoning. I used chopped onion, garlic, and ground cumin to flavor the queso blanco. Do a taste test before serving and add more cumin if you like.
- Optional. Add diced tomatoes, green bell peppers, or red bell peppers for a chunkier cheese dip.

This white queso dip will harden at room temperature fairly quickly, so serve in a small slow cooker on warm.
Recipe FAQ's
You want to use a good melting cheese that doesn't become oily or grainy. You can use white American cheese, sharp cheddar cheese, or Monterey Jack cheese.
Yes, you can prepare it in advance and store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Reheat it slowly over low heat, stirring frequently. Add a splash of milk or tomato juice to thin it out if it is too thick.
My favorite is traditional tortilla chips, but you can also use french fries, pretzels, celery sticks, bell pepper strips, or even breadsticks or crackers.
Pre-shredded cheese often contains hidden ingredients like cellulose (which prevents the cheese from sticking together) which may make the cheese harder to melt. I suggest grating a block of cheese, which is made with milk, cheese culture, salt, and enzymes, and natural flavors.
