Cooking pre-cooked shrimp in the air fryer is one of the quickest ways to get hot, juicy shrimp without overcooking them. If you've ever reheated shrimp on the stove or in the microwave and ended up with rubbery results, this method solves that problem.
Because the shrimp is already cooked, the air fryer isn't actually "cooking" it; it's gently reheating it while adding a little texture. The result is shrimp that's warm, lightly crisped on the outside, and still tender inside.

Why This Air Fryer Shrimp Method Works
- No thawing required: Cook frozen pre-cooked shrimp straight from the freezer.
- No rubbery texture: Gentle heat prevents overcooking.
- Minimal cleanup: No boiling water or greasy pans.
- Extremely versatile: Use the shrimp in multiple meals.

Ingredients You'll Need
You only need a couple of ingredients to make air fryer cooked shrimp.
- Pre-Cooked shrimp: I usually use frozen pre-cooked shrimp that's already peeled and deveined. Tail-on or tail-off both work. When buying frozen shrimp, look for bags with no ice crystals or freezer burn. If the shrimp smells fishy once thawed, it's best to discard it. If using fresh pre-cooked shrimp, reduce the cooking time by 1 minute.
- Seasoning. Lemon pepper is quick and classic, but this recipe is flexible. You can also use a simple mix of salt, black pepper, paprika, Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes, garlic powder, Cajun seasoning, or even a pinch of cumin.

How to Cook Pre-Cooked Shrimp in the Air Fryer
Step-by-Step Instructions
Prepare the Shrimp. Remove the shrimp from the package. If frozen, there's no need to thaw it first.
Arrange in the Basket. Place the shrimp in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Avoid stacking so the shrimp heat evenly. If you're making a lot of shrimp, cook in batches so the air can circulate properly around each piece.
Season. Lightly season the shrimp with lemon pepper or your preferred seasoning. If you want them a bit crispy, lightly spray them with olive oil or avocado oil.

Air Fry. Air fry at 390°F for 3-4 minutes, just until heated through. Larger shrimp may need an extra minute.
- Fresh pre-cooked shrimp: 2-3 minutes
- Frozen pre-cooked shrimp: 3-4 minutes
- Frozen raw shrimp (not pre-cooked): 6-8 minutes
Check for Doneness. The shrimp should be pink, opaque, and warmed through.
Serve Immediately. Serve hot, with a squeeze of lemon juice and fresh parsley, alongside your favorite dipping sauce or sides.

Jeri's Tips for Perfect Results
- Single layer is key: Crowding traps steam and leads to uneven heating.
- Watch closely: Pre-cooked shrimp heat quickly.
- Adjust for size: Jumbo shrimp may need an extra minute.
- Don't overcook: Tight curls mean rubbery shrimp.
How to Serve Air Fryer Shrimp
This shrimp works in countless dishes:
- As an appetizer: Serve with cocktail sauce, tartar sauce, or garlic butter
- In salads: Add to mixed greens with tomatoes and cucumber
- In tacos: Use for quick shrimp tacos with 3-ingredient Flatbread or tortillas
- With pasta: Toss with linguine and Homemade Alfredo Sauce
- In bowls: Serve over Instant Pot Jasmine Rice with avocado and soy sauce
Storage
Store leftover shrimp in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Reheat briefly in the air fryer for 1-2 minutes, or serve cold in salads.
I don't recommend refreezing shrimp after it's been cooked.

Perfect. I have not had luck using frozen shrimp before, it always seems to come out soggy from being frozen. The AF is definitely the way to go.
