Easy Homemade Pizza Dough (Step-by-Step)

This homemade pizza dough is so quick and easy to make, and only takes 10 minutes max of prep time. This dough makes pizza crust that is soft, airy, and deliciously tender. You can make thin-crust pizza or thick-crust pizza, you decide. From start to finish it takes 1 hour, and you will be sitting down and eating your pizza. Even beginner cooks will find this recipe a cinch to make.

  • Non-Stick Round Pizza Pan

  • 2 cups warm water
  • 4 teaspoon yeast
  • 2 teaspoon sugar
  • 5 cups flour
  • 4 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 teaspoon salt


  • Add yeast and sugar to warm water. Mix with a spoon for 5 seconds. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it's foamy on top.
  • In a large bowl, add flour and salt, and stir to mix.
  • Pour yeast mixture into flour mixture. Add olive oil. Stir with a wooden spoon until it is all mixed in. If it is too hard to mix, use your hands to mix the dough together.
  • Knead until dough is a soft and smooth ball. If the dough is sticky, add a little bit of flour and mix it in until it is not sticky.
  • If you are baking right away, preheat the oven to 450 degrees.
  • Roll out the dough with a rolling pin on a floured surface until it is the desired size for the baking pan. You can use a round pizza pan or a cookie sheet. Grease the baking pan before you lay the dough in it.
  • Gently lift the dough and place it in the baking pan.
  • Add pizza sauce and toppings of your choice.
  • For a thin crust, bake in the oven for 15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • For a thicker crust, let the pizza sit out for 15-20 minutes in a warm place to rise, or until desired thickness.
  • When it's thick enough, preheat the oven to 450 degrees, and then place in the oven to bake for 15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • I like to remove to a large cutting board to cut it into pieces.
